picWelcome!  My name is Kimberly Wenzel and
I am excited to be serving Porter for the 3rd year as the 6th grade Language Arts teacher, having worked as Porter's Gifted Specialist for 13 years.  I have prior classroom experience in both 1st and 3rd grades and am endorsed in both Gifted Education and Administration and Supervision.  I am also a Porter parent to three students... Patrick (a former student, who is a 10th grader at Forest Park!),
Ryan (8th grade!), and Katy (4th grade).  I am looking forward to an exciting year together sharing my passion for reading and writing with your child!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

9/20/20
Please remember that tomorrow is an ASYCHRONOUS workday, not a day off!  I have told the students that my office hours will be broken up into two parts:
*2:30 Let's Get on Track (if you are behind in your assignments or aren't sure how to submit them, please attend!)
*3:15 Code of Behavior Remediation and Retake

My parent update from last week can be found here.

Looking forward to seeing parents at 6pm on Wednesday for Back to School Night!!

9/14/20

A friendly reminder that today is an ASYCHRONOUS workday... meaning that students have work to do, they will just be working independently of me.  As I told the student in class on Friday, they are more than welcome to join me on Zoom at 2:30 today during my office hours if they'd like company while they work! :)  The link to join is in the Zoom tab on Canvas!

I just sent out a parent update.  If you did not receive it, you can also access it here.

Congrats on making in through the first week and... most importantly, returning for a second! ;)

9/10/20

TODAY'S ZOOM LINK IS IN CANVAS!!  LOG IN TO 365, CLICK ON "ZOOM" ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE AND FIND THURSDAY AND CLICK "JOIN".

9/8/20

Zoom link for WEDNESDAY is here.

9/4/20
In case you missed Meet and Greet, you can get all caught up here! :)

9/3/20

Hello Parents,

We are almost there! :)  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone today at Meet and Greet.

For Tuesday:
1.  The Zoom Link for ALL Classes is here.  In the event that there are issues with the direct link, see the invitation here.  My homeroom/first period class should log in at 9:25.  Period 3 students should log in at 10:55.  Period 5 students should log in at 2:15.

2.  Please, please, PLEASE make sure your student can access his/her Office 365 account.  And, if not, please reset the password here.

3.  Different from the Spring, we are now using a PWCS Zoom.  Your student needs to AUTHENTICATE their account.  They can do this by logging in to their Office Account.  Then finding Zoom in their "waffle".  And signing into Zoom from there.

4.  Make sure you've purchased your school supplies!

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out!!  For those of you who picked up the 6th grade Learning Bags Tuesday at Porter, I sent the folder for the student's interactive notebook,  the book Refugee (don't start it yet!), as well as some looseleaf paper and glue sticks.  Students should have those accessible when we meet, but we won't need them in the beginning.

I hope you all have a safe and restful long weekend.

Warm Regards,
Ms. Wenzel

WELCOME, Parents, to Middle School!

I am so excited to part of your student's transition not only into Middle School, but also into virtual learning... this is truly going to be a year of MANY firsts (although, maybe NOT that first locker)!

If you're already visiting this page before the start of the year, you're probably looking for ANSWERS!  Please see the county's RETURN TO LEARNING plan that also has a link to their FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS page.  The county also has a video series covering many of those Frequently Asked Questions (which happens to star one of our former Porter Patriots!).

Aside from making sure to purchase the supplies on our 6th grade supply list, please have your student try to sign into his/her Office 365 account prior to the first day of school.  It has probably been a long time since s/he has attempted to log in.  If s/he has forgotten the password, please use this link to help reset it prior to the first day of school.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.   You can find my contact information above.

Looking forward to collaborating on what will, undoubtedly, be an unforgettable year!

Warm regards,
Kimberly Wenzel
